COURSE DETAILS:

With the evolution of science and technology, manipulation of genomes has taken centre stage for solving the problems related to food insecurities, remedies for health issues and improving environment. Safe and nutritive food at affordable price is the need of hour for the world. Traditional ways of treating diseases will not stop of large number of deaths occurring across the globe due to communicable and non communicable diseases. Genetic engineering enables transfer of desired trait beyond the boundaries of species level. Recombinant DNA technology enables incorporation of profitable traits in animal, plants and microbes. The course provides an overview of the genetic engineering principles and applications.  The course also covers tools and technologies for manipulation of genes and genomes.

COURSE OBJECTIVE:

Course provides an introduction to genetic engineering its history and events which led to evolution of this science. The course describes in detail the tools of manipulating genome. The course enables students to develop skills to extract the DNA from bacteria, plant and animal cells, restrict the DNA, take the required DNA fragment and insert into bacterial and higher organism. The course also develops key concepts for manipulation of metabolic pathways and modulates them for enhanced production of desired products or blocking the undesired substances. The project based training is also given which is designed on the requirement of academia and industry. These trainings aim at basic skill development to advance data analysis skills.
